WHAT WE DO

The OESCSW Rescue team is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to improving the lives and
welfare of homeless OES.  We facilitate the rescue and adoption of stray, abandoned, neglected,
abused, and surrendered dogs.  We evaluate each animal and provide foster homes, appropriate
veterinary care, proper nourishment, love, and attention to all rescued dogs.

We place dogs in permanent, loving homes where, after a transitional period, there is likely to be
a high rate of success for both the dog and new owner. OES may live 10-14 years, so adoption is
a lifetime commitment. OESCSW members can help adoptive families through transitional
problems, should any occur. We are happy to answer your questions at anytime. Should the
match not work out, we will take the dog back into rescue.

Qualified adoptive families are selected through an application process focused on the welfare of
the OES and the need to place each dog in an appropriate environment given the individual dog’s
background, temperament, and needs.  A home visit by an OESCSW member is mandatory prior
to adoption, as is follow up with the adoptive family.  Rescue organizations do not sell dogs, but
rather request a donation to help recover some of the costs of rehoming a dog (spaying or
neutering, heartworm medication, other veterinary care, microchipping).  Rescue dogs must be
returned to our rescue if the adoptive family can no longer keep it.

AVAILABLE DOGS

Available dogs are listed on PetFinder , but are not always available immediately.  Often we have
a waiting list, or simply do not have the right dog for your individual situation.  If we do not have
the right dog for you we will take your application and notify you as soon as we find a potential
match.  We may also refer you to other rescue organizations in adjoining states.

THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE ADOPTING AN OES

Do you have children?  These are herding dogs.  They may try to herd them.
Are your children able to handle getting knocked over if the dog becomes excited?
Will you leave your dog in full coat (daily brushing), take it to a groomer regularly, or keep it
clipped short?
OES are exuberant and need to run and play.  Will you give it enough exercise so that the
main playground is not your house?
Are you willing to take the dog to obedience class?  Rescue dogs often need a brush-up on
manners and it develops a bond between dog and master.
WHAT KIND OF DOGS DO YOU HAVE IN RESCUE?

Dog was too boisterous due to lack of exercise and training
Owner’s lifestyle changed due to illness, loss of home, financial difficulties
Owner’s failure to set limits for children’s interaction with their pet

It is often not the dog’s fault it needs a new home, and it is for that reason OESCSW volunteers attempt to evaluate each rescue dog with input from the prior owner (if one is available).  We do
not place dogs for adoption if we identify aggressive tendencies.
Most often the dogs available for adoption
are adult dogs (1 year old and up) that
need new homes for a variety of reasons:
